Ethics in a Global Engineering Environment
Don Herres
2013 November 6

Traditional business methods have changed with globalization. Design & manufacturing engineering and production are done by teams that we may never have met or there is turnover so we have little training in ethics. This presentation covers several new ethical scenarios to discuss concerns that individuals on both sides face when dealing with both different cultural backgrounds and very different local economies.

More About the Role of PACE on Long Island

PACE works closely with the IEEE Long Island Consultants' Network (LICN), an organization that PACE helped found in 1984. The LICN was the first entity within the IEEE that was geared to support independent consultants within the IEEE. Membership to the LICN is limited to individual engineers.

PACE was instrumental in petitioning the IEEE to accept the LICN as an alliance. This entity later became part of the Alliance of IEEE Consultants' Networks (AICN) on a national scale. Now, there are more than 25 of these networks throughout the United States.

PACE assists in making Continuing Educations Units (CEUs) available at seminars for Professional Engineers who require Continuing Education Courses for renewal of their New York State licenses every 3 years. While these courses are offered to all engineers at no charge, Licensed Engineers pay a nominal charge of $20.00 if they require CEU credit. This charge covers the costs of certificates and maintaining records, as required by the New York State Education Department. Additional seminars from IEEE distinguished speakers such as the IEEE "M-PAC" are available for PACE meetings.
