Chair’s message, April 2018

The
65th Annual IEEE Long Island Section Awards Banquet was held on March 22, 2018. I would personally like to thank all of the volunteers who helped to make it a grand success. I have written an article about the Awards Banquet, and it can be found in this edition of the PULSE on page 7. The next major event for the section is the Long Island RF/Microwave Symposium & Exhibits which will be held on Thursday, April 5th, 2018. The event is organized by the Long Island Chapter of the IEEE Microwave Theory and Techniques Society (MTT-S). I encourage you to attend the many informative lectures, workshops and to visit the exhibits area during the event. For more information, please refer to the Symposium website which is at: www.ieee.li/microwave.

On Friday, May 4th, 2018, the Long Island Systems, Applications, & Technology Conference (LISAT) will be held at Farmingdale State College. Many informative lectures will be held, and there will again be a professional development track. Please plan to attend and encourage your colleagues to join us as well. More information about the conference can be found at www.ieee.li/lisat.

Another important upcoming event is the Historical Milestone Dedication Ceremony which will be held on September 5th at the new MART building at Stony Brook University. We will be honoring Dr. Paul Lautebur, the Stony Brook professor who produced the first two-dimensional MRI image. I would encourage you to check the Section website and calendar frequently to stay informed about all of our upcoming events and seminars.

We will be starting soon the process of requesting nominations for Section Officers to serve our members in 2019. Energetic volunteers with a positive and collaborative attitude are needed to help us lead the Section. We are the largest technological organization on Long Island, and there is much more that can be achieved. I encourage all of our members to be engaged, involved, and be a part of the IEEE mission of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.  If you would like further information, please contact me at chairman@ieee.li.

Members of the IEEE Long Island Section, new members included, are highly welcome to attend the Executive Committee
(ExCom) meetings and serve on one or more of our Committees. Please check the Section website for the meeting dates, available positions, and procedure for participating in a meeting.

It is very important to me that the Section provides value to all of our members. Any comments and recommendations that you have are always welcome. You can contact me at chairman@ieee.li. Thank you for your support of our Section, and I look forward to meeting you at our upcoming events.

Warm Regards,
Lou D’Onofrio
