Recap of the

2017 IEEE LI Section Power Electronics Symposium

2017 Summary

The first annual Long Island Power Electronics Symposium & Exhibits was held on 2017 November 9 from noon to 8 PM at the Hauppauge Radisson located at 110 Motor Parkway, Hauppauge LI. All area professionals involved in all sectors of power electronics were invited.

At the event, 46 companies showcased their products and services in a 40-table exhibit hall packed with attendees, while two technical lecture tracks took place in separate chambers. After a complimentary networking lunch, the lectures were kicked off with a keynote address by Sam Aronson, former BNL Director, where he discussed ongoing humanitarian efforts to power off-grid African villages. Technical presentation topics included recent advances in GaN, digital control of power electronics, bi-directional DC/DC conversion, and stability analysis of linear and PWM power amplifiers. Wrapping up the technical lectures was an inspiring talk on the Tesla Science Center (TSC) at Shoreham, presented by Neil Baggett, a member of the TSC Board of Directors.

The official attendance count at the Symposium was 375, including lecturers, exhibitors and general attendees.

2017 Comments from Exhibitors & Attendees

I thought it was very productive and seeing all the vendors is one location was a luxury.
Lee Davis, Persistent Systems

Overall, I really enjoyed the 2017 LI Power Electronics Symposium and I hope the LI IEEE Section will keep this traditional event alive... Thank you so very much!
Johnny Dao, L3 Technologies

To me it was a GREAT regional show and symposium, and I would fully support a few more in our area. The floor traffic was great and the exhibitor setup and effort was seamless and simple. Please more!!!
Walter Poggi, Retlif Testing Laboratories

Very well organized and very informative.
Pawel Janczykowski, Telephonics

In my opinion it was very well organized and attended...
Voya Markovich

In general I thought the symposium was well received.
Chuck Tanzola, Fusion Sourcing

We are following up our leads and expect them to turn into new opportunities for us. The best part was that we got a chance to see and meet customers who normally are not available to us when they are in the office. Thanks again for giving us this opportunity.
Ray Scally, Scally Systems

Best local IEEE event I have been to! Keep up the good work folks.
David Cohen, DAC Technology

I thought the exhibits and presentations were excellent. It was great to catch up with former colleagues.
Mike Ravel, Ultra Electronics EMS

The event was well organized and well attended. I gained a bunch of new leads and potential business opportunities. For a regional show, it was a very good size.
Joe Dagostino, Amplitude Technical Sales

The traffic throughout the whole day was nice and steady. I had some good conversations and made some good contacts. I thought the entire event was very well planned and organized and I think you guys do a great job advertising the event in the weeks and days leading up to the Event.
Tony Solazzo, ANSYS

Great event with a lot of local attendees. Location was perfect and an easy commute for the visitors.
Ron Fiume, Tera Technologies

A sincere thank you to the staff, keynote speakers, and the companies that came out to display their products and services.
Rajiv Sharma, Farmingdale State College

The event was better than I had expected. Interesting vendors, with useful products. Of course having it in our "backyard" was great.
Steve Boegle, Behlman

Had a great time at the symposium! Lots of cool demonstrations at the expo, and the presentations were informative as well as entertaining. I'll certainly be attending the next one!

Great show! Well organized and "right sized" for the occasion. Count us in for 2018!!
Jeff Wagner, Apex

Very Good! I hope they do it again.
Rob Steffann, Atlantic Ultraviolet

It was great to attend the conference. I met a fellow engineer I hadn't seen in more than thirty years.
Daniel Tyroler, Delta Vehicle Systems

I only caught a small piece of one paper from Vicor and I thought it was very well attended and well presented. Next year I plan to leave the office earlier and attend more of the papers.
Joseph Castaldo, DDC

Fantastic show and conference.
Cliff Furcall

Your symposium was among the top 2-3 I have attended.
Jim Bedell, Ultra Electronics EMS

The symposium was great. I agree that we should have it every year if possible.
Luis Sam, Rockwell Collins
